Student of the Day

Two weeks into the school year I was getting worried because Jayda started pretending to be sick because she didn't want to go to school. One morning she told me she had a headache, a stomach ache, and her throat hurt. I wasn't buying it because there was one too many symptoms to be believable. I was planning on talking to her teacher the next time I picked her up from school when I came home from work to some exciting news. As I walked in the door Jayda came running and cried out "Guess what Mom, I got Student of the Day!" My jaw dropped and I got tears in my eyes because I was SO proud of her! She proudly showed me her certificate and free coupons that she got for being "Student of the Day." One of the coupons she got was for a free kids meal at Del Taco and she wanted to use it that night so we went there to celebrate her achievement. Since then, Jayda hasn't tried to get out of going to school by pretending to be sick and she seems to be enjoying school a lot more. Keep up the good work Jayda! Momma loves you!

First Day of School

Jayda was so excited for the first day of school this year that she couldn't sleep the night before and had everything in her lunch box ready a whole day ahead! I have never seen her that excited for anything, not even Christmas! It was really cute to see her that excited for school and I think she's really going to like the first grade.

Dance Recital

Yesterday we went to Dance Showcase Company's annual summer concert and this year Jayda, Chloee, and Olivia were all going to perform. However, at the dress rehearsal Olivia didn't want anything to do with it and kept running off of the stage. We weren't quite sure what she was going to do at the concert and unfortunately, she made a run for it. We were all a lil' bummed because she looked SO darn cute with her curly hair! Jayda and Chloee did a really good job with their dance routines and each year they seem more confident and comfortable up on the stage. Ashleigh and I took dance at Dance Showcase Company for years so it brought back a lot of memories and since it had been 40 years since Janet Holdaway started Dance Showcase Company, all the teachers (two of them are her daughters) performed a tribute dance dedicated to her. It was really neat and included songs and dance moves that they had taught over the years and one part was from a dance that I had learned and can't seem to forget no matter how hard I try, "Everybody Dance Now." I know some of you reading this will remember that one, lol. At the end of the tribute, Janet came out and busted a couple moves herself. It was quite a moving performance and it even brought tears to my eyes as my mom was next to me crying.

Hawaii Trip

A couple of months ago, a dear friend of mine passed away and was going to be laid to rest in Hawaii. It was important to me to say goodbye to him and also be there to support my best friend, Faye. I had never been to Hawaii and never wanted my first time to be for a funeral, but my girlfriends and I decided we would make the best of it and enjoys ourselves because he would've wanted it that way. We stayed at my friend Pua's family's house, which she calls "The Jungle." They have all kinds of animals including a pet goat that her brother brought home from another island, who snuck in the bathroom while I was taking a shower and tried to get in the shower with me!! They even had a couple rooster families with little babies that would wake us up way too early every morning. Besides all the mosquitoes, we had a really good time sight seeing and visiting all the places my friend would talk about during his stories about growing up "on da island."

Hogle Zoo Fieldtrip

I was one of the chaperones that went with Jayda's kindergarten class to the Hogle Zoo for their fieldtrip. There were so many chaperones that each parent only had to keep track of two kids, which was nice. After the long bus drive up there and unloading all the kids, we only had about two hours to see all the animals and have lunch. Of course as soon as we got there, which was about 10ish, Jayda wanted to have lunch. That girl is ALWAYS hungry! I had Jayda and her best friend, Emma, in my group who cracked me up when she wanted to spend the most time looking at a house cat out of all the animals at the zoo! She probably wanted to see what a normal cat is supposed to look like after seeing our cat! (I'll explain later.) Anyhow, we had a really fun time and needless to say, after the ride home with a bus full of kindergartners I was ready for a nap!

Easter Egg Hunt

This year we all went to the Wimmer's house for an Easter Egg Hunt and dinner. We played Blongo Ball and Eric even taught Jayda how to ride a "big girl bike" without training wheels and she did it without falling! Thanks Eric!

Easter 2008

Jayda was really excited about coloring easter eggs this year and was asking me if we could color them weeks before Easter! I had to explain to her that they wouldn't be good by the time Easter came so by the time we did color them, (the night before) she couldn't color enough! I think we went through about two dozen eggs. I asked her what we were gonna do with that many eggs and she said "I'm really hungry for some egg salad sandwiches," with a grin. Weeks later, I was still finding colored eggs around the house!

Well my sister Ashleigh finally talked me into starting a blog. I'm always looking at my sisters' blogs and wanting to comment so I figured I might as well start one with Jayda and I. So here it goes....I'm going to start off by doing a little bit of backtracking with some of the recent things we've been up to.
